North Carolina Sees Demand for Massage Therapists

Careers in Massage Therapy

As 2021 comes to a close, the state of North Carolina is seeing tremendous growth in the demand for massage therapists. This growth mirrors the increase in demand across the nation, as people are discovering the health benefits of massage for pain relief, stress reduction, and lessening of inflammation. If you are considering a career as a massage therapist, you will find plenty of opportunities within this field.

A Growing Career Field

Massage therapy continues to grow as a career because of demand. In a recent survey from the American Massage Therapy Association, 86% of surveyed adults said they felt massage therapy had medical benefits. As many as 21% of the adults surveyed had reported at least one massage in a spa over the last 12 months. As the Baby Boomer generation continues to age but strives to stay active during their older years, the demand for massage and its pain and inflammation-reducing capabilities continues to grow.

As a result of this increased demand, massage therapists are seeing strong growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects to see a 32% increase in demand for massage therapists from 2020 to 2030. This is over 46,000 new jobs over that ten-year period. That level of growth is much higher than other industries, showing the benefit of pursuing a career in massage therapy.

Spa Industry Growth Fueling Massage Therapy Growth

Massage therapists can work in a number of settings, but many of them find employment within spas. The massage spa industry, as a result, is seeing tremendous growth, and by the year 2030 it is expected to have deep roots within the overall wellness sector.

Growing Demand Meets a Shrinking Workforce

Even though the demand for massage therapists is growing, the number of therapists in the industry is shrinking. There are not enough new massage therapists coming into the field to keep up with the demand for their services. NC Massage School can change that.

Our next class start date is March 7, 2022. Register today to get in on this growth and launch a successful career as a massage therapist.
