This class is for professional therapists or well skilled beginners.
Part 1
This class is for professional therapists or well skilled beginners giving therapists confidence in massaging seniors in all stages of health.
Topics include:
• Their Ayurvedic ‘dosha’ (body type)
• The 3 classes of geriatric clients
• Demonstration of body mechanics , routines and massage techniques to work with seniors on a massage table, arm chair or wheelchair
* Appropriate moist heat and aromatherapy applications to open the minds and senses of this special population
* The 7 stages of Alzheimer’s disease
* Special considerations for skin and joints
* Pathology for indications/contraindications for geriatric massage
Part 2
Completion of Part 1 is required for this class.
Topics include:
* Special positioning techniques that reduce fatigue in the geriatric client as well as the therapist
* massage routines for the client in a side-lying position on a massage table or hospital bed
* Back exfoliations for the geriatric client in prone and sidelying positions on a massage table or hospital bed
* Instruction for proper completion of forms such as intake, SOAP notes, charting and use of standard medical abbreviations used within the healthcare setting
* Examples of how to set protocol and determine correct modality
* Marketing concepts that work

* 2 extra pillowcases
* bath towel

* Massage cream/lotion
Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
