According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (Part of NIH): TMJ Dysfunction (TMJD) is the second most commonly occurring musculoskeletal condition resulting in pain and disability preceded only by chronic low back pain. NIH estimates that 5 to 12% of the population suffers from TMJD.

After completing this course each participant will be able to identify the major muscles involved in TM joint movement, better understand the causes of TMJ pain, and apply specific Swedish techniques to help reduce TMJ pain.

Melissa graduated in 1999 from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, a COMTA accredited institution. Her training includes over 620 hours of coursework in Swedish Massage, Acupressure, Jin Shin Do, Sports Massage, Anatomy, Kinesiology and Neurology. Upon graduation she passed both the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and the New York State Licensing Exam.

Over the last decade, Melissa has enhanced her credentials by completing over 6500 hours of bodywork as a Massage Therapist at the Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa, and through 400+ hours of continuing education courses including Professional Ethics, Reflexology, Reiki, Deep Tissue, CranioSacral Therapy, Aromatherapy Massage, Lymph Drainage, TMJ Massage, Stress-Related Disorders and Spa Body Wraps.

“Melissa and her space are very welcoming and she is a very knowledgeable, talented and experienced massage therapist. As an instructor she exceeded my expectations. She is professional, on-time, sticks to the syllabus- yet always willing to explain further or repeat something for her students to see again, very approachable, funny and made learning the material fun. The course content in Melissa’s classes is undoubtedly helpful in furthering my massage career, easy to read and understand, and efficiently laid out.
