- Workshops on résumé writing, interview preparation, and marketing strategies
- Self-care, record-keeping, and effective client communication
- Hands-on practice in postural assessment, SOAP note documentation, and treatment planning
- Guest speakers from the industry on business models and target markets
By the end of the course, you will have developed your own health intake forms, SOAP notes, résumé, and marketing plan.
Hands-On Internship
Supervised Experience Before Graduation
The 700-hour Massage Therapy Diploma Program includes a 100-hour supervised clinical internship. This practical experience is an essential part of each student’s preparation for real-world client care.
For more about the school’s graduate resources, review our school catalog (PDF) or contact NC Massage School directly. Career assistance does not guarantee employment, a particular salary, or acceptance by an employer.
Before You Apply for a Massage Therapy Position
Give each employer a clear picture of your training, experience, and availability. Tailor your application materials to the specific role instead of sending the same generic introduction everywhere.
Present Your Experience Accurately
Include your education, graduation date, current license status, relevant training modalities, and professional references. New graduates can highlight supervised clinical experience, interpersonal communication skills, and prior customer-service experience. Clearly distinguish supervised student clinicals from paid professional employment.
Research the Setting and the Commute
Consider which work environments suit you best: franchised studios, boutique day spas, or multidisciplinary clinics alongside chiropractors and physical therapists. Compare opportunities in Charlotte, Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, and Mooresville against your target schedule and travel preferences before applying.
Understand Your Licensing Requirements
Graduation and professional licensure are separate legal steps. Before providing massage and bodywork services for compensation in North Carolina, make sure you meet all regulatory requirements. Review the North Carolina Board’s official licensure information. Applicants awaiting license issuance should clearly communicate their application status and discuss expected processing timelines with prospective employers.
Questions to Ask Before Accepting a Position
Look beyond the advertised hourly rate. Use the interview process to understand how the clinic operates on a daily basis, what physical support is provided, and whether workplace expectations align with your long-term career goals.
| Evaluation Topic | Key Questions to Clarify |
|---|---|
| Pay and Bookings | Is the quoted rate per hands-on service hour or per scheduled shift hour? How are late cancellations, unbooked table time, client gratuities, and non-service duties (laundry, room prep) compensated? |
| Schedule and Workload | Which shifts are mandatory (evenings, weekends)? How many minutes are scheduled between appointments for charting and table turnaround, and what are the daily caps on hands-on bodywork hours? |
| Working Arrangement | Is the role classified as W-2 employment, 1099 independent contracting, or booth rental? Request written terms confirming who supplies hydraulic tables, linens, lotions, booking software, and liability coverage. |
| Professional Support | What onboarding or mentoring is provided to new staff? Ask about client screening protocols, treatment room safety policies, peer feedback, and whether the employer offers continuing education stipends. |
