Course description:

Taking the Bars Free Course will allow you to acquire some of the basics and get a feel for Ashiatsu barefoot massage without having to install the overhead parallel bars.
This class is ideal for any therapist seeking a new skill to add to their deep tissue repertoire. Students will learn a full 60-minute barefoot protocol that combines seated prone, supine as well as side-lying barefoot techniques. The techniques are seated techniques on a stool.

This course will not only include warm up strokes such as effleurage, petrissage and compression but will include deeper techniques such as cross fiber friction, positional release and trigger point therapy. We cover contraindications specific to deep tissue and ashiatsu methods as well as how to communicate effectively with your clients during the treatment. We train our students to work “smart not hard” and find that the seated introduction course is a great class to start the thinking differently in the way you perform deep tissue massage techniques.

Upon completion of this course, students will also receive a $200 voucher for The DeepFeet 1 Basics Course should they decide to take it anytime after.

What to Bring:
– 1 set of massage linens including face cradle cover
– 3 hand towels
– King Pillow Case
– Table warmer (optional)
– Blanket (optional)
– Cream and Oil
– Pen & Paper
– Flip flops that can be sanitized
– Foot File
– Snacks, Water, Lunch

– Please arrive to class with clean, soft, pedicured feet. We ask that you shorten and file your toenails and make an extra effort to soften heels with a foot file or pumice stone.

– Allow plenty of time to travel to and from the workshop location. Please arrive on time or 10 minutes early to class.

– Please refrain from texting or talking on your phone during class and be respectful and considerate of your fellow classmates.

– You will be giving and receiving Ashiatsu through out the course and may end up lying face down for upwards of two hours. We ask that you are healthy and free of any conditions or recent injuries/surgeries that would contraindicate deep compressive massage techniques (including pregnancy)

– You will be asked to sign a code of ethics agreement and workshop liability disclaimer on day one of class.

– How can you prepare before class? Walking barefoot is great for waking up your sensory receptors located on the bottom of your feet. There are a number of ways to physically prepare for class. Any class where you work out barefoot is ideal; recommendations include Barre classes, Yoga, Pilates and the Nia technique. In addition, picking up marbles or small objects with you feet will help with dexterity and fine motor movements.

We are a fully furnished massage school facility and provide Oakworks massage tables, class tables, and computer/projector for overhead presentations.
