This interactive one day workshop, utilizing Ralph Stephens textbook Therapeutic Chair Massage, focuses on our natural and instinctive urge to rub a person’s shoulders while he or she is sitting in a chair.
From its roots in Japanese amma, seated massage has evolved to become a vital specialty area in the field of America massage therapy. It allows the massage therapist and bodyworker to reach out to the community with greater accessibility and affordability.
Seated therapy can be performed on-site at the client’s location or the therapist’s office. Seated therapeutic massage sessions are shorter and treatment is through the clothes of the client without oil. Highly effective in promoting the therapist’s private practice, it can also be developed as a complete practice itself. The chair massage has brought therapeutic massage out into the open for the general public to access as easily as a haircut..
The participants will demonstrate proper body mechanics for chair massage and identify proper ways to sanitize and maintain their equipment and themselves. Participants will list absolute and partial contraindications and endangerment points.
The instructor will demonstrate and the participants will imitate three routines:
1: Relaxation Routine
2: Therapeutic Back and Neck Routine
3: Therapeutic Routine for Shoulder.
The participants will identify their target market and list several promotional strategies for reaching that market. Describe key considerations to take into account when setting rate and establishing contracts with clients and independent contractors. Participants will also list some strategies for creating, maintaining and retaining clients.
If you could bring your chair for seated chair massage – Great! If you don’t have one, don’t worry about it – we have them.
